Pro. Wang’s team has been researching in clarifying the chemical material basis, discovering and optimizing the leading compounds from the Chinese Ethnic Minority Traditional Drugs.

Key Laboratory of Structure-Based Drug Design & Discovery (KLSBDDD), located in Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, was established by the Ministry of Education in China in 2009. The KLSBDDD integrates core technology platform of several subjects including the pharmaceutical chemistry, natural medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical plant cultivation, analytical chemistry, cellular and molecular biology and pharmacology, and primarily aims at designing and discovering novel small molecule drugs, according to the protein targets crucially involved in the human major diseases. The overall space is nearly 50,000 square meters and contains 34 million RMB of research instruments, such as MALDI-FT-MS, MALDI-TOF-MSn, laser scanning confocal microscope, transmission electron microscope, FACScan™ flow cytometer, EPC-10 double patch clamp amplifier, Bruker ARX-600 MHz, circular dichroism system and Ф150mm preparative HPLC system etc. [See our team members]

Under the guidance of ethnic medicine theory, Pro. Wang’s team has separated and identified over 1000 types of compounds (100 new compounds) from Chinese ethnic medicine. The team also took advantage of bioinformatics technology to establish the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of cancer, hepatitis, cardiovascular diseases and neurodegenerative disease. Besides, the team also integrated core technology of several subjects including chemistry of drug synthesis, cellular molecular biology and pharmacology, thereby to discover the targets of the effective components from ethnic drugs. Using the targets and the technology like virtual screening, synthesis of chemical derivatives, as well as research on structure-function relationship, the team has modified structures of some leading compounds for curing human major disease. And, the fifth sort of new drugs of Traditional Chinese Medicine for treatment of stroke sequela "total sterone from Rhaponticum uniflorum" is applying for new drug certificates.
